Hacktoberfest is DigitalOcean’s annual event that encourages people to contribute to open source throughout October. Much of modern tech infrastructure relies on open-source projects built and maintained by passionate people who often don’t have the staff or budgets to do much more than keep the project alive. Hacktoberfest is all about giving back to those projects, sharpening skills, and celebrating all things open source, especially the people that make open source so special.

What does this mean? It means that if you have 4 pull requests accepted between October 1 and October 31 you’ll be entitled to receive SWAG! 👕

How to participate?

  • if you want to be eligible for some exclusive Speckle SWAG™ then you just need to have 4 pull requests accepted between October 1 and October 31 in any of the Speckle repositories
  • if you want to be also eligible for the DigitalOcean prizes, register at the official Hacktoberfest website

All the other rules from the official event apply, and as always, no-code or low-code contributions also apply!

Getting started

⚠ NOTE: before starting to work on an issue, make sure to let others know in a comment. Do check our contribution guidelines if unsure.

Why Hacking Speckle?

Proprietary formats, vendor monopolies, and legacy software have plagued AEC and many other industries for too long.

Three-dimensional models are the execution engine of the built and virtual world, and we still stand strong in our mission to enable anyone to communicate, engage and achieve more with 3d models and data.

Speckle started as a project back in 2015, and it's still 100% open source because, as we say in our Open Source in AEC & Speckle article:

We are committed to developing a critical digital infrastructural piece on which we, as an industry, can build on top of and foster a dynamic ecosystem whose interactions are not a zero-sum game.

Hack with us this Hacktoberfest, there are many ways to contribute! 🎉
